Darren Till Done Answering Questions About His Weight After Friday

Darren Till gives an update on his weight and he says after he hits the mark at 170 pounds on Friday, he doesn't want to hear about it again

Darren Till can only answer the same question so many ways.

In the lead up to UFC 228 on Saturday night, the 25-year old Liverpudlian has been asked numerous times about his weight and whether or not he’s going to step onto the scales at 170 pounds or less for his championship fight against Tyron Woodley.

Of course there’s legitimate concern considering Till came in three and a half pounds over the welterweight limit (174.5 pounds) for his last fight against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Last May, Till also failed to make the welterweight limit when he came in at a whopping 178 pounds for a fight against Jesse Ayari.

Now Till has to get down to 170 pounds or less to fight for the title so he understands the questions but it doesn’t make him any less sick of answering them as he gave an update on his current status.

“182 [pounds] this morning so we’ll see. I’m not stepping on any heavier than 170 [pounds]. Hopefully under so I can have my traditional Coke, what I’m used to having,” Till said on Wednesday.

“Speed bumps along the way. Not making weight, you get all this attention for it. It’s like you’re the only fighter that’s ever missed weight in the division in the whole of the UFC. It’s not true but it’s a mistake on my part. Friday, all the talk will be done. No motherf–ker can ask me a question about weight again. He’s getting slapped.”

Now Till had a laugh after that last part of his answer but he’s certainly frustrated over the attention being paid to his weight rather than the actual task at hand on Saturday night.

The good news is Till says that his weight going into UFC 228 is the same as his previous performance against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone where he came in at exactly 170 pounds on the dot and then earned a first round knockout.

“I fought “Cowboy” [Donald Cerrone], I was about 182 on that Wednesday and I had a great cut for that,” Till explained. “I’m never going to say it’s easy, it’s always hard but listen I’m lean, I’m focused, weight’s OK. I never want to stand here and say weight’s great, this is the best weight cut cause fighters do that and I don’t agree with it. It’s just a lie. Weight’s not great, I don’t want to speak to anyone.

“Business is business. Saturday’s business. Friday’s business. My life is this business.”

Till will join the rest of the fighters from UFC 228 at the early weigh-ins from Dallas on Friday morning where they will have two hours to step on the scales from 10 a.m. ET until 12 p.m. ET.
