Floyd Mayweather Sr Thinks Mayweather vs McGregor 2 Is Going To Happen
This news will have a lot of MMA fans rolling their eyes, but according to Floyd Mayweather Sr., it won’t be too long before Conor McGregor and his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight again.
Back in August 2017, Mayweather and McGregor fought in Las Vegas, Nevada in a boxing fight that was the generated the second highest pay-per-view buy rate in history. After showing early promise in the opening rounds, McGregor tired during the middle of the fight and Mayweather stopped the Irishman in the tenth round to take his undefeated record to 50-0. In doing so, Mayweather took home a guaranteed fight purse of $100 million, whilst McGregor himself netted a tasty $30 million. An article in the Daily Telegraph later projected the actual earning for each fighter to stand at over $300 million for Mayweather and over $100 million for McGregor.
Alas, despite talks after of Mayweather contemplating a bout in the UFC Octagon, the two appeared to go their separate ways with Mayweather heading into retirement once again and McGregor getting booked in a UFC lightweight title fight showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov next month at UFC 229.
However, this past weekend, Mayweather Sr. poured petrol back on the bonfire when he spoke to Las Vegas based reporter Helen Yee and stated that he expects the two to fight again one day.
“It’s sounding like him and Conor McGregor are going to fight,” Mayweather Sr. said. “That’s what it sounds like. I don’t know for sure, but I’m just saying the way things are sounding to me. It sounds like [Floyd’s] going to fight again, and Conor McGregor, he wants to fight again.
“Even though he don’t want to fight again, but he’ll fight again just to show his people what he can do – which is nothing.”
McGregor has previously talked about wanting to fight Mayweather again under MMA rules, but could we again see them share the boxing ring? No doubt MMA fans will hope the Irishman sticks to the Octagon.
