Kevin Lee Targeting Showdown With Justin Gaethje: ‘He’s A F***ing Mad Man’
Kevin Lee has his sights on getting himself back in the UFC lightweight title picture and he’s not being shy about who he wants to share the Octagon with next.
This past weekend, Justin Gaethje defeated James Vick at UFC Lincoln and took his UFC record back to 2-2 following back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez. With Gaethje now back in the thick of the top-5, Lee told Submission Radio this week that he’d love to face him later this year,
“I loved that fight,” Lee said regarding Gaethje vs Vick. “It’s way more appealing to me now too. Justin is a mark and I’m like a lion. Every day I wake up, I just try and look for my next target, I look for my next meal. And right there Justin showed me himself, so I like that. I like a fight, especially like that, because Justin’s a fucking mad man. So he’s gonna bring out the best in me and he’s really gonna let me show off for the rest of these guys that already know the business.
“I’m in a situation right now where I’m having a hard time getting fights because guys know when you sign up to fight me you’re signing up for a hard fight, you ain’t gonna win that fight. So not a lot of people are signing that line. Justin just might be crazy enough to do it. So, I was all smiles. I was like, alright, I got me a dance partner if anything.”
One other fight Lee has been linked with is a rematch with fellow UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta. The two first met back in September 2014 when Iaquinta defeated Lee via unanimous decision. The two have been going back and forth of social media for the past week, but it appears they can’t come to terms on a time or place to fight.
“Al knows the business, Al knows the real deal and he knows he’s talking that, but he really gonna be playing games at the end of the day. When I approached him (about) fighting me in October on this card, that’s when he really got… you could see he pulled back a lot. He talking about, ‘oh, you wanna fight in China,’ and all this instead. And I’m like, come one, you either wanna fight or you don’t. And when he took the fight with Gaethje in his last one, you know, he signed the contract and didn’t bother showing up.
“I’m not gonna waste my time with somebody like that. If he got better things to do then I got better things to do, and that’s what’s gonna get done. If he’s serious about the fight, then he knows the right mediums to approach. You gotta go through a couple of people to get to me. I ain’t one of these dudes that’s gonna sit here and go back and forth with y’all on Twitter. I’m working, I got better things to do. I got world championships to win.”
