Mike Perry Reveals The Advice He Gave To Darren Till To Beat Tyron Woodley
The bromance between Darren Till and Mike Perry continues to blossom in what has to be one of MMA’s unlikeliest of friendships.
Less than a year ago, Perry and Till look set for a bitter showdown after the two went back and forth in Gdansk, Poland following the Scouser’s win over Donald Cerrone.
The two never ended up settling their differences, but two weeks ago at UFC 227 they took the opportunity to thrash it out behind closed doors during a sparring (not spa) session in Los Angeles, California.
Details emerging from both sides have suggested that the spar was good natured and that the two now have a deeper found respect for one another. With Till now set to fight the Tyron Woodley for the title next month, Perry told Submission Radio earlier this week the advice he gave to Till to help him topple the champion.
“I did man [give him some tips] because, I mean, just the way that I see it, with fighting against a shorter fighter, Darren stands rather tall and I said I think he needs to get down and bend his knees,” Till said.
“He needs to get his eyes on the same level as ‘T-Woodley’s’ I mean he’s got a good turn away from the takedown and the shot, but you know, [I said] ‘I’m not trying to give you advice because you’re the one fighting the champ, but the way that I think I see it, I think maybe you could do this some more; bend your knees some more and get lower sometimes.
“I know you’re going to do what you do and fight confidently and I’m sure T-Woodley will do too. Who really knows!? Who knows. I just hope those boys make that weight so they can fight for that damn thing.”
With Colby Covington also hanging around the title mix, Perry has his sights on defeating Donald Cerrone and then going on to have a showdown with either Covington or Till later down the road. When asked who he would prefer to fight with, Perry made it clear that he’d like to dish out a beating to his fellow American, but didn’t rule out a fight with Till either.
“Sure if we go off of anger issues and f***ing Colby Covington being just a little f***ing bitch, I’ll take that fight all day,” Perry said. “But Till would be great out of respect still. I respect what the kid has done, s***, I respect, Colby got the interim belt so I don’t respect him for that, but he did something that I haven’t done yet.
“I know he’s talented as far as fighting goes. [He’s got] strength, his wrestling capabilities, his cardio, he trains his ass off. I’d get in there though and try to cut his face open.”
