Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz In the Works for UFC 230 in New York
A massive lightweight showdown is currently in the works for UFC 230 as Dustin Poirier is expected to welcome Nate Diaz back to the Octagon on Nov. 3 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Thursday following an initial report from the L.A. Times.
Fresh off a second round TKO against Eddie Alvarez at UFC on FOX 30, Poirier wanted a title shot but stated that he would be interested in another fight if the promotion made it worth his while.
Diaz is considered one of the biggest names in the entire lightweight division, especially after back-to-back fights against Conor McGregor that ended up as two of the biggest selling pay-per-view cards of all time.
Diaz has been teasing a return to action for several months but no fight had ever been finalized for him to actually get back inside the Octagon.
It appears Poirier was the name that finally got Diaz interested as the lightweights are expected to clash in the co-main event at UFC 230 in New York.
As of now, the UFC has made no official confirmation regarding this fight or the main event for the card in New York but more news may be coming soon as the promotion has a press conference scheduled for Friday with plans to announce several high profile matchups for the remainder of 2018.
