Manager Says Yoel Romero Has Inked a Lucrative New Deal with the UFC
Yoel Romero isn’t going anywhere but back to the UFC for more fights.
On Wednesday, Romero’s managers Malki and Abraham Kawa revealed that the former middleweight title contender has inked a new multi-fight deal with the UFC that will reportedly make him one of the richest fighters on the roster.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Yoel Romero just signed a new deal and became one of the highest paid fighters in the UFC,” Kawa wrote on Instagram.
Romero has been a force of nature since first arriving in the UFC with a laundry list of big wins inside the Octagon.
Most recently, Romero suffered a very close loss to middleweight champion Robert Whittaker before teasing a move up to light heavyweight after failing to hit the 185-pound mark in his past two fights.
The move to 205 pounds was apparently put on hold after the UFC announced Romero was going to face fast rising Brazilian star Paulo Costa in November. The fight was never officially finalized on Romero’s side but perhaps this new deal will cement the matchup with Costa at UFC 230 in New York.
At 41, Romero is one of the older fighters on the UFC roster yet he remains the top contender in the middleweight division and may still explore a future at light heavyweight now that his new deal has been inked.
