Michael Bisping Trashes Colby Covington’s Interim Title Belt Win
The MMA world was shocked this past week when the UFC saw fit to hand Darren Till a surprise shot at Tyron Woodley’s UFC welterweight title at UFC 228 on Sept. 8.
Till could make history by becoming only the second British fighter to ever hold a world title with Michael Bisping of course being the maiden UFC title winner. Speaking to MMA journalist Mike Bohn yesterday at a UFC Calgary event, Bisping sent his best wishes to his fellow Brit and gave his perspective on how he sees the fight going.
“Darren Till, first and foremost, good luck my friend, you represent England, but screw England it’s got nothing to do with that, he’s doing it for himself,” Bisping said. “I think he’s got a very good chance in this fight.
“Tyron Woodley is of course a tough opponent. He’s a dominant champion and he’s great. He’s great, all round, so is Darren. Wonderboy and Till, they’re very similar opponents and I see the fight playing out very similarly.
“The Woodley and Wonderboy fights were closer and I think this fight will be close as well. I they will be very similar fights.”
One man who’s come out on the wrong side of Till getting a title shot is interim champion Colby Covington. According to reports earlier this week, Covington will be stripped of his interim title the second that both Till and Woodley enter the Octagon at UFC 228, but Bisping isn’t one who feels sorry for the controversial American Top Team fighter.
“The circumstances surrounding it, you know, I always say interim belts aren’t worth the leather they’re printed on and this highlights this,” Bisping said. “That’s no disrespect to the UFC, they’ve got to run a business and they’re doing what they’ve got to do.
“That’s why I threw my belt on the floor against Robert Whittaker. That’s why I told Colby Covington to take a long walk off a short pier when he talked s*** on that thing (Fox post-fight show). People said ‘he just won the belt. How can you talk s***?’ No he didn’t just win the belt and here we go.
“Colby Covington, good luck going to President Trump with empty hands.”
