Coach Kavanagh ‘Can’t Imagine’ Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov Not Happening In 2018
Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh has given a clear indication that he’s expecting his two weight UFC world champion to face Khabib Nurmagomedov by the end of 2018
Last Friday, Kavanagh joined fight analyst Robin Black onstage at the Liberty Hall in Dublin, Ireland and fielded questions from both Black and audience.
In order to get the obvious question on everyone’s lips out the way, Black seized the initiative and just went right ahead:
Robin Black: “Is Conor [McGregor] going to fight Khabib [Nurmagomedov]?
John Kavanagh: “Yeah, so, it’s the obvious fight, as his coach and as a fan of MMA, it’s the fight I want to see.
“I would almost bet anything that this fight happens before the end of the year.
“I can’t imagine it not happening.”

The answer was short, sweet but to straight the point and came just a week after another member of McGregor’s corner Owen Roddy told MMANytt that he also believes that Nurmagomedov will be the Irishman’s next opponent.
“I think he’s at the forefront,” Roddy said backstage at Cage Warriors 94.
“I always say, Conor wants the biggest fights he can possible have so I think at the moment, Khabib seems to be that guy.”

It appears that no fight news for McGregor will be announced until his impending court case stemming from the incident in Brooklyn earlier year is settled, but all signs are currently pointing towards him returning to the UFC Octagon to face Nurmagomedov in 2018.
With Dana White declaring that the fight will only take place in Las Vegas and nowhere else, three potential dates appear to be on the table.
The Sept. 8 UFC 228 fight card is rumoured to be heading to Las Vegas, but with the T-Mobile already booked out, there appear to be complications with securing a venue and nothing is yet confirmed.
The following month, UFC 229 on Oct. 6 fight card is currently set for the T-Mobile.
Lastly, the UFC will head to the T-Mobile for the final time in 2018 for UFC 232 which will take place on Dec. 29.
