Coach Wants Georges St-Pierre to Fight Floyd Mayweather

Georges St-Pierre has conquered every goal he’s ever set for himself in mixed martial arts so why not tackle a new one in boxing?

Well that’s at least a suggestion from St-Pierre’s head coach Firas Zahabi, who revealed on Tuesday during an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast that he’s been trying to convince the former two division UFC champion to go after Floyd Mayweather next.

The subject came up when Zahabi was discussing Conor McGregor’s boxing match with Mayweather from last year that ended up as the second biggest pay-per-view in history.

“I want Georges to fight Mayweather,” Zahabi said. “I keep bothering Georges ‘you fight Mayweather, you fight him’. He’s like ‘it’s crazy’. I know it’s crazy.”

Crazy seems to be a relative term in this day and age where McGregor reportedly earned more than $100 million to fight Mayweather last year in his first professional boxing match.

St-Pierre has never boxed professionally either so while the suggestion might sound ludicrous, Zahabi seems to think it’s a plausible idea.

“They’ll fight at a catch weight. Do you think Mayweather is worried about being concussed? He’s fought all the top punchers in the world. He’s just going to have to worry about Georges’ volume and reach but he can handle himself and Georges can handle himself. But the whole world is going to tune into that one,” Zahabi said.

No matter how much poking and prodding Zahabi has done, he says that St-Pierre wouldn’t even consider the fight unless Mayweather asked for it first.

“I’m like ‘Georges do it’ but Georges doesn’t want to fight a smaller guy, doesn’t want to call out a smaller guy,” Zahabi said.

“So it’s going to have to come from Mayweather. It’s going to have to come from him.”
