Alexander Gustafsson Likes the Idea of Fighting Yoel Romero Next
Alexander Gustafsson is still waiting on an opponent and with Luke Rockhold on the shelf due to injury, he’s turning his attention to the last man to defeat him.
On Thursday, Gustafsson put out a call for a fight against former middleweight title contender Yoel Romero, who just lost a heartbreaking split decision to champion Robert Whittaker this past weekend.
While Romero has given no indication that he plans on moving to light heavyweight, he has failed to make weight for two title fights in a row including his knockout win over Rockhold from February.
Romero actually has experience at light heavyweight after starting his career at 205 pounds before suffering a loss to Rafael Feijao in 2011 before deciding to move down to middleweight.
“Just because the ”BOSS” DC [Daniel Cormier] said so lets do it Yoel,” Gustafsson write on Twitter. “Obviously both of you have difficulties making weight.”

Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had suggested the bout between Gustafsson and Romero after the middleweight title contender failed to make weight last week.
Now it appears Gustafsson is on board for the idea with the list of possible opponents at light heavyweight looking rather thin these days.
Gustafsson just recently inked a lucrative new multi-fight contract with the UFC but he still hasn’t been able to book a fight after he was originally rumored for a bout against Rockhold at UFC 227 in August. Sadly, Rockhold is dealing with a pretty severe shin injury that required surgery and so Gustafsson remains on the sidelines awaiting word on his next fight.
