Fabricio Werdum Issues Statement After USADA Reveals Potential Doping Violation

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum has broken his silence after USADA revealed a potential doping violation based on an out of competition drug test from April.

Werdum had just recently agreed to a fight against Alexey Oleynik that would headline the UFC Fight Night card in Russia on Sept. 15.

As of now that fight hasn’t been scrapped but it’s obviously in jeopardy following Werdum’s drug test being flagged as a potential doping violation.

“Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance,” Werdum stated via Instagram. “I am working with my team, the UFC and USADA to understand what happened. I’ve always been careful with everything I take and I’ve always supported a clean sport.

“We will work hard to solve this misunderstanding and I hope soon to be able to go back to the Octagon and do what I love.”

All athletes in the UFC are afforded an adjudication process after a drug test is flagged for containing prohibited substances.

Unfortunately that’s not a very timely process, which means the likelihood of Werdum still fighting in September seems slim but not out of the realm of possibility yet.

For now, Werdum remain on provisional suspension as a result of his drug test being flagged until a final decision is reached by USADA on any potential punishment as a result of the UFC anti-doping policy infraction.

➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance.
