Karolina Kowalkiewicz Received Apology from Conor McGregor After Bus Assault

Karolina Kowalkiewicz doesn’t seem to hold any ill will towards Conor McGregor for attacking the bus she was on ahead of UFC 223 last month in Brooklyn.

The incident unfolded inside the Barclays Center after a media session had just wrapped when McGregor and a crew of his friends showed up looking for retribution against Khabib Nurmagomedov after he confronted their teammate Artem Lobov days earlier.

The end result of the assault on the bus left two fighters injured and unable to compete with a UFC employee being taken to a local hospital with more than $8,000 worth of damage done during the melee.

While the altercation forced Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg out of their fights, strawweight champion Rose Namajunas was so shaken up by the incident that the UFC was worried she might actually drop out of her title fight the next night.

Former title contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz was also on the bus when McGregor and his team attacked but she didn’t seem all that concerned by what was unfolding around her.

“After the press conference we got into the bus, but suddenly I heard someone was pounding it. I didn’t know, what’s going on. At first I thought these were some fans, or someone was joking around,” Kowalkiewicz described when speaking to MMA Flashback. “The rest of fighters inside the bus started screaming, they wanted to open the door and get out. Then I realized many Irish guys [were running] around the bus, I saw Conor, I saw people punching the windows. I saw Rose was crying, trembling and Pat Barry was covering her. Somebody had a bloodstained face.

“My coaches hid me under the seats so I don’t get hurt by the broken glass. I yelled at them to let me go, I wanted to see what’s going on, but they kept me there. That’s it, I think Conor overreacted.”

After the incident ended, McGregor was arrested and now faces two misdemeanor assault charges as well as a felony property damage charge for his part in initiating the melee.

There’s also the chance that McGregor faces lawsuits from the fighters inside the bus who were affected by his actions.

While McGregor may end up paying a lot of money out to the athletes involved in the attack on the bus, Kowalkiewicz won’t be one of them as she has no plans of any legal actions against the former lightweight champion.

“I think when he realized what happened, he felt remorse. He wrote to me by himself and apologized,” Kowalkiewicz said. “I don’t know if that was honest or he was jut afraid of a class-action [lawsuit], but I’m not going to sue anyone.

“Happily, I didn’t get hurt. I’m joking, but I grew up in Lodz and I saw worse things.”
