Gegard Mousasi Reacts to Being Co-Main Event at Bellator 200 Behind Nelson vs. Cro Cop
Gegard Mousasi has 99 problems but a main event ain’t one.
At the upcoming Bellator 200 card from London, England, Mousasi will battle for the middleweight title against reigning champion Rafael Carvalho in only his second fight for the promotion.
Despite the title being on the line, Mousasi’s fight with Carvalho will actually serve as the co-main event for the historic card as a heavyweight showdown between Roy Nelson and legendary knockout artist Mirko Cro Cop will close the event as the headliner.
As much as that might seem like a slight to the title fight also on the card, Mousasi says he has bigger things to worry about than whether or not he’s competing in the main event on a card.
“I don’t care,” Mousasi told MMANytt when asked about his co-main event status. “I get paid. That’s the job of the promotion. If the promotion feels like Cro Cop is the better main event, yeah of course. I need to do my job and that’s make weight and fight. I don’t care.
“Main event, co-main event, that’s not my job.”
The way Mousasi sees it, his job is to go out there and fight and win the Bellator middleweight title but whether that’s the first bout of the card or the last doesn’t change his approach.
The only thing that Mousasi wants to think about is getting the win and earning a bigger paycheck by becoming champion but all the other issues surrounding the event are problems he has no interest in dealing with.
“For me if I win the belt, I make more money. That’s my plan,” Mousasi said. “I just don’t care about main event or co-main event.”
