Amanda Cooper Slams Mackenzie Dern for Coming In Seven Pounds Over Weight

Amanda Cooper will still face Mackenzie Dern at UFC 224 despite the fact that she came in seven pounds over weight for their strawweight contest.

Amanda Cooper will still fight at UFC 224 but she’s not happy at all with her opponent Mackenzie Dern.

On Friday morning in Brazil, Dern stepped onto the scales at 123 pounds — a full seven pounds over the limit for a non-title fight at strawweight — which is actually the third time in her career that she’s missed weight in seven professional bouts (first time in the UFC).

Despite Dern missing weight, Cooper ultimately accepted the bout and will receive 30-percent of her opponent’s fight purse as compensation for taking the fight.

Cooper took to Twitter to vent her frustrations at Dern after she missed weight so badly ahead of their bout on Saturday night.

“Not shocked Mackenzie Dern missed weight but 7.4lbs over is a disgrace to all professionals,” Cooper said. “She’s not getting out of this fight that easy. Fight is still on. ABCNation get ready. UFC 224 — strawweight vs. flyweight tomorrow night in Brazil.”

Dern has struggled to make the strawweight limit throughout her career with her making the weight limit as many times as she’s now missed it.

The 25-year old Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy did venture up to flyweight for one fight before believing that she got her weight in check to move back down to strawweight.

Dern had made the strawweight limit for her past two fights but then came in extremely over weight for the bout against Cooper at UFC 224.
