Kevin Lee Wants A Fight With Nate Diaz At UFC 227
Kevin Lee has the wind back in his sails following his win over Edson Barboza last month and he’s making it known to the world that he wants his next opponent to be Nate Diaz.
“The Motown Phenom” called for a fight with the champion Kahbib Nurmagomedov during his post-fight Octagon interview, but with the Russian looking increasingly likely to go on to face Conor McGregor now, Lee has set his sights on another big name at 155-pounds.
Speaking on the Sirius XM’s ‘MMA Tonight’ Lee let the world know that he wants a fight with Diaz later this year.
“I’m turning my focus to Nate,” Lee said.
“I think that Nate fight is out there to be had. He’s already run away from me once.
“Now they’ve got August 4 coming up that he’s looking to get on.”
With Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier also linked to a fight at the UFC on Fox 30 fight card in Calgary, Canada, Lee now finds himself in the position of being the odd man out in the division having already beaten Barboza.
Add in the fact that Tony Ferguson is out injured for likely the rest of the year, Lee knows that his best option right now is to talk up a fight with Diaz and bide his time whilst the rest of the division plays out.
“I’m going to do a little bit of travelling, see the world a bit myself and kind of expand some more of that life to experience, which is just going to make me a better fighter,” Lee said.
“Coming back? I don’t know. I think the Khabib fight is the right one to make, but the Nate one is out there to be had.
“I know Dustin [Poirier] and Alvarez, they’re getting in it again, as they rightfully should. But we’ll how this thing shakes out. I’m going to turn my focus to Nate.”
