Joanna Jedrzejczyk Thinks A Title Fight With Valentina Shevchenko Would Have ‘An Interesting Story Behind It’

Who and when Joanna Jedrzejczyk fights next is still undetermined, but it appears the former strawweight champion is currently weighing up her options at both 115-pounds and 125-pounds.

Jedrzejczyk was defeated by Rose Namajunas for the second time last month at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, New York. The Pole now has to make a decision of whether to say at strawweight or make the move up to flyweight and it appears that decision could come sooner than some might expect.

Speaking this morning to ZapinamyPasy.pl, Jedrzejczyk said she was leaning towards staying put at 115-pounds and reclaiming her strawweight title

“I am already thinking about next the fight, we are already talking about it,” Jedrzejczyk said.

“I think it’s a matter of one bout and then I will go for that belt.”

“The flyweight division is in my plans, but I’m a tenacious Pole.

“The belt I had in the past, I will possess it once again.

“Therefore we have to reckon with 115, but 125 is also in my plans.”

While staying at strawweight continues to be forefront in her mind, Jedrzejczyk does appear to have an eye on retribution against another former opponent, Valentina Shevchenko. The Pole fought and lost to Shevchenko three time during her Muay Thai and she believes that their history would make the perfect backdrop for a 125-pounds title fight.

“I think Valentina got her title fight. She’s the next contender for the flyweight 125-pounds belt.

“We will see, it surely would be an interesting story.”

“If Valentina will possess the belt when I decide to move to upper division – and I think she will because she’s a really solid fighter – we will have an interesting fight with a good story behind it.”
