Cody Garbrandt Not Looking To Relight Old Fires And S*** Talk Ahead Of TJ Dillashaw Rematch

Cody Garbrandt is just focused on himself ahead of his rematch with TJ Dillashaw at UFC 227.

Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw were involved in one of the most heated rivalries of 2017 and the two will meet for the second time in the UFC Octagon on August 4 at UFC 227.

Prior to the first fight between the pair, Garbrandt and Dillashaw got involved in multiple exchanges both offline and online in a heated rivalry that originated from Dillashaw exiting the Team Alpha Male setup back in 2015.

Garbrandt lost the first fight via second-round TKO after nearly getting the finish him in the last few seconds of the first. The rematch between the two will likely produce more fireworks inside the Octagon but speaking this week on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, Garbrandt said he won’t be going out his way this time to start a war of words.

“For me, I think that from the whole outside looking in, the whole dynamic of it, I’m not gonna relight any of the fires,” Garbrandt said. “What’s been said is done you know, that’s a different chapter.

“I went to the press conference and you know, he and I were s*** talking and I saw him at the press conference and said ‘it looks like you’ve been working on your s*** talking, that’s good.’

“I’m just gonna focus on training. He can do that sell those tickets because he’s the champ now, go ahead.

“For me, it’s a completely different fight, different focus and I’m not going to waste my energy on all the bad blood.”

Dillashaw’s immediate to reaction to scream in the face of Garbrandt after finishing him at UFC 217 will forever remain as one of the iconic moments of the historic UFC 217 event. Garbrandt hasn’t forgotten his ex-teammate screaming in his face and said he’s now using it for extra motivation to get his own back at UFC 227.

“I shook his hand after the fight and told him ‘good job. you got me.’

“He then got in my face when I was coming back to and one of his cornermen was flipping me off.

“It’s cool. When I train I see all that s*** and I know for a fact that if that ref wasn’t there he would never do that and get in my face like that.

“He’s fake and I stand behind everything that I said in the past, but I’m not going to focus on that.

“I’m just going to focus on myself and I’m just going back to doing what I do and that’s going out there, performing and then getting my title back.”
