Exclusive: Chatri Sityodtong Supportive Of Ben Askren vs Rory MacDonald And Rose Namajunas vs Angela Lee

A dream matchup between Ben Askren vs Rory MacDonald inches ever closer following ONE Championship chairman Chatri Sityodtong declaring his support for the fight to take place.

Sityodtong took to social media last evening where he declared:

“I am open to doing a World Champion vs World Champion fight between Ben Askren and Rory MacDonald. I have big respect and deep admiration for both athletes. If the fans want it, let’s make it happen!”

In a brief exchange of messages with Jim Edwards earlier today, Sityodtong said that he’d yet to think the details in regards to how or where the fight could take place, but did add:

“I would love to have the fight in ONE Championship or to co-promote it.”

Sityodtong also later stated:

“I am also open to Angela Lee vs Rose Namajunas. I would love to see ONE vs UFC in a co-promotion. It would be great for the fans to see world champion vs world champion.”

Last evening, Brett Okamoto of ESPN spoke to Bellator President Scott Coker who confirmed that the organization had been in touch with Askren and that MacDonald was keen for the fight.

Per a conversation today with Scott Coker, Bellator has spoken to Ben Askren about a potential fight with Rory MacDonald. Coker loves Rory's enthusiasm for it, but there are some challenges with Askren's contractual status. They'll explore it, but hurdles to clear.
