Alexander Gustafsson Inks ‘Most Lucrative’ UFC Contract in His Career
Alexander Gustafsson will be a UFC fighter for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday, the top ranked light heavyweight contender inked a new multi-fight contract with the UFC to remain part of the roster after first joining the promotion back in 2009.
While terms of the contract were not disclosed, Gustafsson’s manager Nima Safapour from Moments Sports Management confirmed that it was a new multi-fight deal and the Swedish title contender was very happy with the terms.
“What I can tell you is this is the most lucrative deal of Alex’s career,” Safapour said in an exclusive statement. “And one of the best deals in the space. Both the UFC and Alex are happy. It is a good deal for everyone. Hunter Campbell is an operator and a solid operator.
“We are excited to continue to grow with the UFC as partners and collaborators. The title is within reach now more than ever.”
Gustafsson has anxiously been awaiting his next fight after receiving the bad news that he wouldn’t be facing light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier as he first expected.
Cormier is awaiting a July showdown against heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the main event at UFC 226, which puts the light heavyweight title on hold for now.
Gustafsson has mentioned the possibility of the UFC introducing an interim title in Cormier’s absence but there’s been no word if the promotion is actually interested in adding another championship to the 205-pound picture just yet.
What is certain is Gustafsson plans on sticking around the UFC for several more bouts after inking his new deal with a fight announcement likely looming just around the corner.
