Joanna Jedrzejczyk Denies That She Has Declined Since Joining American Top Team
Joanna Jedrzejczyk has today spoken out and denied claims that her performances have declined since joining American Top Team (ATT).
Jedrzejczyk left her original team Berkut Arrachion Olsztyn in 2016 and went on to joined ATT prior to her fight with Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205. She went on to defend her title against her fellow Pole and then succeeded doing so again at UFC 211 when she defeated Jessica Andrade in Dallas, Texas.
All seemed to be going well settling into life working with nutritionists Perfecting Athletes and her coaches at ATT, but at UFC 217 Jedrzejczyk suffered the first loss of her career when she was defeated by Rose Namajunas.
Ahead of their rematch at UFC 223, The Pole stuck by her coaches at ATT, but parted ways with Perfecting Athlete, however she failed she regain her title losing via a unanimous decision.
Suffering her second loss in a row has led to critics in Poland claiming she should’ve never left her original team in Poland, but speaking today in her home country, Jedrzejczyk denied that she was wrong to make the move to ATT.
“I definitely had to change my tactics,” Jedrzejczyk told InTheCage.pl.
“People say when I was training in Poland I was this and that, but after three years of reigning and being a champion, opponents were familiar with my tactics, with my movement.
“Therefore I had to change it. I am happy with the changes.”
Other say that Jedrzejczyk’s main issue is the weight cut down to 115lbs and she’s openly said that she one day wishes to make the up to flyweight. Speaking today, Jedrzejczyk admitted that a move up to 125lbs could be next, but that she still hadn’t given up hope on reclaiming her strawweight title.
“I definitely think I could do well in 125 lbs,” Jedrzejczyk said.
“I fought with Rosi Sexton and scored a beautiful knockout, which provided me UFC debut.
“That might be a plan, but we will see. I will talk with Dana and we will see.
“I think 125 lbs will be the next step, but I don’t really know. However, if I stay in 115, then I would have to fight for the biggest trophies.”
