Brock Lesnar Inks New Deal with WWE; Still Expected to Pursue Fights in UFC
Brock Lesnar has signed a new contract with WWE but that doesn’t put an end to rumors that he was planning a return to the UFC.
WWE announced on Monday that Lesnar had signed a new deal with the promotion less than 24-hours after he was victorious in his WrestleMania 34 match against Roman Reigns.
In the lead up to that event, speculation ran wild that Lesnar would drop that match to Reigns in the final days of his WWE contract so he could then pursue a return to the UFC.
While Lesnar has re-signed with WWE for a new deal, there have been several reports regarding the length of that contract from just allowing him to perform a few more times to a short term deal overall to a new mulit-year contract.
The one constant amidst all those rumors is that part of Lesnar’s agreement to return to WWE was that the organization would allow him to pursue a fight in the UFC.
WWE CEO Vince McMahon has never been a fan of allowing his athletes to crossover but he did give Lesnar permission to fight at UFC 200 and it appears he was on board with this same scenario in an effort to re-sign the hulking heavyweight.
UFC president Dana White said this past weekend that Lesnar was still under contract with the UFC and they had talked extensively about him returning to the Octagon. White even teased that Lesnar could potentially face the winner of the upcoming heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
Lesnar’s next scheduled appearance is set for a WWE event in Saudi Arabia on April 27 where he will once again face Reigns, this time inside a steel cage. The results of that match — Lesnar winning or giving up the title — may give a clearer indication in regards to the length of his new deal not to mention the possibility that he pursues a fight sooner rather than later.
Lesnar still has to re-enter the USADA drug testing pool for at least six months before being allowed to fight. Once he gives USADA notice to begin drug testing him again will be the best indicator on when he will be returning to the UFC.
