Joanna Jedrzejczyk Admits A Debut At Flyweight Would Be A ‘More Healthy Solution’ For Her Next Fight

Joanna Jedrzejczyk looks to be considering a debut at flyweight following her loss to Rose Namajunas at UFC 223.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk gave it all she had against Rose Namajunas at UFC 223, but after five rounds it just wasn’t quite enough.

Jedrzejczyk was defeated via unanimous decision with all three scorecards reading 49-46. With now two losses in a row to the current champion, the Pole finds herself in the difficult situation of trying to earn another title shot.

Speaking 48-hours after her loss, Jedrzejczyk admitted that a move up to flyweight could be on the cards for her next fight and that it would be beneficial for her health if she made the move up.

“It would definitely be a more healthy solution,” Jedrzejczyk said. “After 15 years in the sport, my metabolism is wearing out.”

“We have some limits – even though I think limits are only in our heads, time goes on,” Jedrzejczyk said. “But I still feel young, my last camp was the best camp in my life.”

“We will see, perhaps I will have one debut fight in flyweight, but getting strawweight belt is definitely still my goal.”

Despite suffering back-to-back losses to Namajunas, Jedrzejczyk is in no mind to give up on the 115-pounds title. Whether or not that is against the current champion is out of the Pole’s hands, but regardless, she wants the belt strapped around her waist again.

“Many people ask me about the trilogy, as I said, I don’t know,” Jedrzejczyk said.

“I don’t know if Rose will still be the champion. I still feel hunger to fight the best, to reach the highest trophies, as I felt for 15 years of my career.

“So it’s my intention to fight for the UFC belt again.”

With Namajunas likely now going on to fight another contender, Jedrzejczyk is reliant on the champion keeping her belt for the foreseeable future if they are to fight again.

Jedrzejczyk is currently tied with Ronda Rousey for successful title defences and the former champion wasn’t willing to commit to whether she thinks Namajunas will ever break her record.

“Will Rose remain champion? I don’t know, we will see. As we saw, she just defended her title for the first time,” Jedrzejczyk said.

“Congratulations, our fight was excellent, and I’m really proud of that. We will see, perhaps we will have a trilogy.

“We should prepare for that.”
