Gunnar Nelson Faces Neil Magny in Co-Main Event at UFC Fight Night in Liverpool
A new welterweight co-main event has been added to the UFC’s upcoming card in Liverpool as submission specialist Gunnar Nelson takes on Neil Magny as part of the event taking place on May 27 in England.
UFC officials confirmed the matchup on Tuesday following an initial report from Farah Hannoun on Twitter.
Nelson has been anxiously awaiting his next fight as he was originally expected to compete at the UFC Fight Night card in London a few weeks ago but the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt never found an opponent.
Now Nelson will finally return to action for the first time since suffering a loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in his last bout from July 2017.
Meanwhile, Magny is coming off of one of the biggest wins of his career when he defeated former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit in his last fight from UFC 219 this past December. Magny has gone 5-2 over his past seven fights while constantly looming around the top 10 rankings at 170 pounds.
Nelson vs. Magny joins a growing line up of fights headed to Liverpool with the main event expected to see local favorite Darren Till take on Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, although UFC officials have yet to announced that bout publicly.
