[Video] Watch Garry Tonon Win His ONE Championship Debut
BJJ superstar Garry Tonon made a successful MMA debut earlier today in Bangkok, Thailand when he defeated Richard Corminal at ONE: Iron Will.
Tonon started out at a fast pace and looked to close the distance on Corminal who was for the most part on the back foot. The American showed limited willingness to throw his hands from the outset, but wasn’t so shy mixing in kicks aimed at to both the head and body. Corminal responded by trying to throw in leg kicks and the odd overhand right, but the opening few minutes were dictated by Tonon as he looked to use his footwork and land one decisive big blow.
With one minute to go in round one, Corminal was taken down to the mat, but Corminal managed to bounce back to his feet. A pivotal moment in the fight then came when Tonon landed a huge right hand to knock Corminal down to the mat.

The American then attempted to seal the deal with ground and pound, but Corminal managed to see the round out and he groggily walked back to his corner.
The writing looked to be on the wall at the beginning of round two and it took Tonon less than a minute to get his man down to the mat. The American then worked several positions before transitioning into full mount and raining down blows. Corminal to his credit managed to get back to his feet after a nifty escape out the back door, but Tonon soon had him down again.
Tonon was clearly chasing a KO/TKO finish and passed up on a submission on more than a few occasions to instead land strikes. The finish them came with round two closing in as Tonon once again took full mount and landed some savage elbows before the referee dove in to call t he fight.

It was a very impressive debut by the American who barely had scratch on him after nearly 9 minutes of combat.
