Eric Spicely vs Darren Stewart Targeted For May 27
The May 27 UFC Fight Night Card still lacks a confirmed venue, but contracts are starting to make their way to the fighters.
Sources close to MMANytt.com have confirmed that a middleweight bout between Eric Spicely and Darren Stewart is being targeted and has been verbally accepted.
Spicely (10-3) is coming off the back of two losses following defeats to Antônio Carlos Junior and Gerald Meerschaert last year. The American earned himself a full time UFC contract after being a contestant on season 23 of The Ultimate Fighter. Whilst on the show, Spicely defeated Kenneth Bergh and Elias Urbina before being defeated by Andrew Sanchez in the semi-finals of the competition. Spicely will now look to return to winnings ways when he takes on the man nicknamed “The Dentist” on May 27.
Stewart (7-3) is yet to register a win in the UFC and has lost three straight fights on the bounce. The Englishman’s UFC career started off with a controversial fight with Francimar Barroso. The Brazilian was originally announced the winner of the fight, but the result was later overturned after he was judged to have inadvertently head-butted the Englishman in the lead up to the finish. The two then faced each other again in a rematch and the Brazilian won via unanimous decision after which Stewart went on to lose two further bouts to Karl Roberson and Julian Marquez last December.
The UFC are yet to announce where the May 27 card will take place, but sources close to MMANytt have suggested that the UFC are exploring staging the fight card in Liverpool, England (more on this HERE).
