John Lineker vs. Brian Kelleher In the Works for UFC 224 in Brazil
It looks like Brian Kelleher will get his wish with a fight in the works against John Lineker at UFC 224 in Brazil on May 12.
Kelleher had asked to face Lineker after defeating Renan Barao in February and now verbal agreements are in place for the matchup with the fight expected to take place on the upcoming card in Rio de Janeiro.
Sources confirmed the news on Tuesday following an initial report from Combate.
Kelleher has put together an impressive 3-1 record since joining the UFC roster including back-to-back wins in his most recent fights.
Now the New York native will take his biggest step up in competition as he faces a top 10 terror in Lineker in May.
Lineker has gone 5-1 over his past six fights at bantamweight with his last victory coming against Marlon Vera last October. Unfortunately, Lineker was forced to pull out of his last fight at UFC 219 due to illness but now he’s ready to resume his career with a fight at home in May.
UFC officials haven’t announced the bout but assuming Lineker vs. Kelleher is finalized, the bantamweight bout joins a growing card headed to Brazil with the show headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington.
