This fight will serve as Nunes’ third title defense after previously defeating Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko in consecutive bouts. Nunes has won six fights in a row overall.
As for Pennington, she will step into enemy territory for her first shot at UFC gold while also competing for the first time since 2016. When Pennington last appeared in the UFC, she defeated former champion Miesha Tate in the final fight of her career but the injuries kept her sidelined for all of 2017.
Now Pennington returns while facing a tough test by taking on Nunes in her home country at UFC 224.
More fights will be added to UFC 224 in the coming weeks.
