Mike Grundy ‘100% Up For’ Filling In At UFC London Following Alex Reyes Withdrawl
Team Kaobon’s Mike Grundy says he will happily step up and fight Nasrat Haqparast on 9 days notice following the news today that Alex Reyes had withdrawn from UFC London.
German site GNP1.de confirmed rumours this morning that lightweight Alex Reyes had suffered an injury and that her wouldn’t be making the trip to London next week to fight Haqparast. The UFC are yet to confirm Reyes’ withdrawal, but already a number of fighters including the likes of Damien Brown have thrown their hat in the ring.
One option closer to home for the UFC matchmakers is Grundy. The former 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist is 11-1 as mixed martial artist and has put together a winning streak of 8 with wins over the likes of Yutaka Saito, Michael Tobin and most recently Fernando Bruno for the Aspera FC featherweight title in Brazil.
Speaking exclusively to MMANytt.com via text message earlier today, Grundy confirmed his interest in the fight.
‘I’m 100% up for it,” Grundy said. “I’m in the gym every day training with killers. This is my opportunity and I’m ready and willing to take the fight. They just need to give me the call.”
Grundy is one of Darren Till’s teammates and trains out of the Team Kaobon gym in Liverpool. The 31-year-old has fought in a number of different promotions across the world including BAMMA, ACB, Shooto and Aspera.
