[Video] Watch Paddy Pimblett Get Back To Winning Ways At Cage Warriors 90
You can’t keep a good fighter down and this evening Paddy Pimblett showed what he’s really made of after winning his lightweight debut at Cage Warriors 90.
Pimblett, who was coming off the back of losing his Cage Warriors featherweight title last year to Nar Narimani, soaked up the atmosphere as he walked out in front of the rampant Liverpool crowd at the Echo Arena. His opponent, Alexis Savvidis, looked much the smaller man as the two hard the final instructions from the referee and with crowd on their feet, the fight got underway.
Round 1
Pimblett looked for a single leg early on but as he looked for the takedown Savvidis reversed the position and worked his way on top. A series of transitions took place as the two fighters jockeyed for position on the ground. Pimblett looked for a heel hook, but Savvidis reversed the position and looked for his own before abandoning the submission for top position. Another series of transitions took place and eventually the fight settled down with Pimblett in half guard where he started to rain down strikes. Savvidis did well to reverse the position and threatened with a kimura attempt that Pimblett did well to wriggle out of. Pimblett then worked into half guard before looking for his own kimura before time expired.
Round 2
Savvidis looks for a big right hand early on and looks to follow up with a takedown, but Pimblett transitions beautifully into a triangle on the way down and he cinches in an armbar to get the tap. What a finish and performance by Pimblett.

After having his hand raised, Pimblett praised Savvidis for his toughness. “I thought it was going to be easier than that man, but he was tough man.”
“I didn’t think his grappling was anywhere near my level.”
“This is the best thing in the world,” Pimblett said regarding the Liverpool Echo Arena crowd.
He then challenged Soren Bak to challenge him for the Cage Warriors lightweight title at Cage Warriors 93.
