Carla Esparza On Claudia Gadelha’s Trash Talking: ‘If We Didn’t Have USADA, I’d Call It Roid Rage’
Carla Esparza versus Claudia Gadelha was the first bout to be officially added to the June 9 UFC 225 fight card in Chicago and it see’s two longtime rivals booked to fight each other for the third time.
Esparza and Gadelha were previously booked to me one another at Invicta 4 and Invicta 7, but after one fight fell by the wayside due to a Gadelha injury and then the other due to a bad Gadelha weight cut, the fight between the two never materialized. With five years now between their second and third fight booking, the two finally look set to meet inside the UFC Octagon and speaking this week on MMAJunkie Radio, Esparza admitted the fight was long overdue.
“I’m so excited,” Esparza said. “This is actually the third time this fight was supposed to happen so it’s been a long time coming. I’m just excited it’s going to happen.”
The cancelled fights have only served to make both women more determined to fight each other and the relationship between the two of them doesn’t appear to be a friendly one. Esparza went on to explain that Gadelha has never been short of a word or two for her and that’s been on the receiving end of some trash talk from the Brazilian.
“Not really, it’s funny, she’s always been like a big trash talker and we’ve had our Twitter wars which came from nothing back in the day,” Esparza said. “Up until recently, she’s either talked s*** about me and stuff on her Instagram, like calling me names and [saying] all these things about me.
“Even just last year, out of nowhere, talking crap about me and then right now I think she called me a dumba** and another post where she called me a little girl. It’s just her trash talking, I didn’t say anything about her I was ‘Yay, this fight is finally going to happen,’ and she was just like this, this and this, ‘see you in Chicago, you can’t run anymore dumba**.’ So I’m just like alright. You know, if we didn’t have USADA in the picture, I’d call roid rage.”
UFC 225 goes down on June 9 in Chicago, Illinois.
