Max Holloway Trolls Conor McGregor After He Boasted About Their Fight from 2013
Conor McGregor might be the king of trash talk but Max Holloway isn’t afraid to challenge the throne.
This past week, McGregor took a look back at his history with Holloway in a post where he talked about tearing his ACL during the fight while boasting about how he was still dominant in victory in what was his second bout in the UFC.
McGregor has been speaking more regularly about Holloway lately after he defeated Jose Aldo to become featherweight champion last year and then defended the belt with a second lopsided win over the Brazilian.
This latest message came unprovoked as McGregor touted his victory over Holloway while offering a couple of back handed compliments.
“This was just moments after I tore my ACL in a fight in Boston, Massachusetts. It was when I faced off against the current featherweight champion Max Holloway, who I dismantled before and after this ligament tear, to win a lopsided victory,” McGregor wrote.
“It was father against son in there that night in just my second UFC bout. Young Max is a hell of a fighter, I wonder what the future holds for my young Uce. Ligaments are needed in a fight definitely. Some can fight on however, where as some can not.”
Well not to be out done in the social media trolling game, Holloway fired back with a post of his own clearly aimed at McGregor while not only touting his second win over Aldo but also pointing out that it was his first title defense — something the Irishman has still never done during his UFC career.
“This was just moments after I dabbed in the octagon with my son after a fight in Detroit, Michigan. It was when I faced off against the former featherweight champ and legend Jose Aldo who I stopped for the second time,” Holloway wrote. “It was a great legend against me in there that night in just my first title defense. Aldo is a hell of a fighter, I wonder what the future holds for my Brazilian brother.
“Getting paid is needed in a fight definitely. Some can find the motivation to defend no matter what however where as some cannot. I always think there is a moment in your career that make you a true champion. It’s when you find the motivation to keep earning what you already have, to defend. I have had one in my blessed career and this was most certainly the first of many.”
Holloway has never bitten his tongue when it comes to McGregor or his desire to settle the score if they ever step back into the Octagon together.
It may not happen soon but given these latest back and forth comments, a Holloway vs. McGregor fight sure seems like a fun prospect for the future.
