‘Cowboy’ Cerrone Wants Khabib Nurmagomedov in Return to Lightweight
No one will ever say Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is afraid of a challenge.
Following his first round TKO win over Yancy Medeiros on Sunday night, Cerrone announced that he was planning a return to the lightweight division where he was a former title contender in the UFC.
Not only is Cerrone plotting his next fight at 155 pounds but he’s already targeting arguably the toughest matchup in the entire division as he called for a fight against Russian wrecking machine Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“I want [155 pounds]. I want to go get that belt,” Cerrone said. “Khabib [Nurmagomedov], I’m coming baby. I’m coming. I ain’t scared to fight you.”
Cerrone and Nurmagomedov had danced around fighting each other previously but the matchup never came together. For the past couple of years, Cerrone has been occupied in the welterweight division but by all accounts he’s abandoning that idea with plans to return to lightweight for his next fight.
"I want 155, I want that belt. @TeamKhabib, I'm coming. I ain't scared to fight…"

Then again, Cerrone knows he has a hard time turning down a fight and if the UFC comes calling with a matchup at 170 pounds, he’ll probably end up taking it.
“These big old boys hit hard and they’re a lot bigger. Like I woke up at 168 [pounds] made weight easy. I wish there was a [165 pound] weight class. UFC could we get a 165 weight class, please? Cause that would be cool,” Cerrone said.
“I’ll just fight whatever they tell me. They’ll call me and tell me ‘we need you at 170’ and I’ll be like OK. I’ll take any fight. They all pay the same to me so it don’t matter what it is.”
