Conor McGregor Sends Message to Floyd Mayweather After Apparently Dropping Out of Fight Negotiations
Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather just can’t quit each other.
Following weeks of hints and teases that Mayweather was actually considering a move over into the UFC to challenge McGregor in a mixed martial arts match, it appears the UFC lightweight champion is calling his bluff.
While it was tough to believe that Mayweather would ever come out of retirement to pursue a rematch with McGregor inside the Octagon, he’s also a huge fan of making large sums of money and that fight would undoubtedly earn both of them a lot of it.
Ultimately, McGregor sent a message to Mayweather on Sunday after he apparently dropped out of whatever negotiations were ongoing for a potential rematch.
“I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “It is the reason I never [sought] the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement. My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games.
“I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes. Have a great retirement Junior. Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I’m proud of you son. Yours truly, Senior.”
Now this could just be McGregor’s way of goading a response out of Mayweather, who posted several videos showing him stepping inside a MMA cage, which led to speculation that he was actually considering a crossover from boxing.
A rematch between McGregor and Mayweather always seemed like a long shot but getting the two of them into a cage together under MMA rules appeared to be an impossibility until these past few weeks.
From the sound of things, McGregor is declaring whatever talk there was dead as he takes another shot at Mayweather in the process. Chances are it won’t be long before Mayweather has something to say in return.
