UFC Fighter Devin Powell Suffers Ruptured Testicle During Training Session
Two fight UFC veteran Devin Powell might be wearing a protective cup in all of his training sessions going forward after suffering a ruptured testicle while working out with lightweight contender Joe Lauzon this week.
Powell revealed the wince-inducing injury in an Instagram post where he said the accidental blow to his baby makers happened in a grappling session where they were practicing knees and one wrong shot ended with an ambulance ride to the hospital.
“Thanks to the fine ambulatory services in Wells, ME, I am checked into the hospital and ready for surgery. Shout out to Joe Lauzon, we’ve been practicing knees on the ground and he successfully ruptured my testicle with his sheer power,” Powell wrote. “His opponent has no chance in April. Now to get the blood clot drained and the goods repaired.
“I waited a day and a half to be seen. Word for the wise, if you hurt yourself, go get checked out.”
The good news is Powell is now resting comfortably after going to the hospital to get checked out as he’s on the road to recovery so he can book his next fight in the UFC.
“Surgery was a success, now on to recovery,” Powell said. “Can’t wait to get back in the UFC cage, this will be the first time since my last fight that I will be forced to rest my whole body for multiple days in a row. I will come back stronger than ever, I wasn’t expecting this curve ball but I’m going to hit my recovery right out of the park.”
Typical recovery time for a ruptured testicle can take about a week but will usually be accompanied by at least four to five weeks of swelling and discomfort. Chances are Powell won’t be grappling with Lauzon during that time.
