Frankie Edgar vs. Brian Ortega Expected at UFC 222
A featherweight title eliminator is nearing completion that would see Frankie Edgar take on Brian Ortega at UFC 222 in Las Vegas on March 3.
Sources close to the matchup confirmed the news on Wednesday although bout agreements have not been signed nor have UFC officials made any announcements regarding the fight.
Part of the reason the fight is still not a done deal is the ongoing search for a main event to headline UFC 222 after featherweight champion Max Holloway suffered an injury that forced him off the card.
The current plan in motion is pitting UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg against former Invicta FC competitor Yana Kunitskaya in the main event as first reported by Ariel Helwani on Twitter. As of now, the UFC is still working on that fight but if it’s completed then that all but finalizes the matchup between Edgar and Ortega as the co-main event.
Because this is an ongoing situation, plans could still change and fights may fall apart but that is the expected line up at UFC 222 if agreements can be reached with all of the athletes.
