Conor McGregor Discusses His Return to Fighting, Addresses Floyd Mayweather Rematch

Conor McGregor gave a brief update about his fighting future on Wednesday.

Conor McGregor was in New York on Wednesday where he was honored by the New York’s Children Medical Research Foundation for his charity work but before leaving there had to be a question about his return to action.

McGregor has been locked in contract negotiations with the UFC for months after his fight against Floyd Mayweather this past August where he reportedly earned north of $100 million in his first ever boxing match.

Lately, McGregor’s name has been tossed around as the UFC looks to move forward with the lightweight division in his absence with rumors swirling that he will be stripped of his title before Tony Ferguson faces Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 7 in a title fight main event.

McGregor didn’t address that situation but did give a brief update on his current status while also talking about a potential rematch against Mayweather in the future.

“I’m currently in the negotiation stage,” McGregor revealed.  “There are multiple opponents on the platform.

“Of course I would love to get that one [against Floyd Mayweather] back. I felt I went into his realm and I felt handy early on, he had to wait for me to get tired.”

Mayweather has been posting videos for the past two days where he’s stepping inside an MMA cage at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas as if to tease that he’s actually considering a mixed martial arts fight.

McGregor would undoubtedly love to get his hands on Mayweather under MMA rules but it’s not likely that’s going to happen any time soon.

Instead, McGregor will continue to work with the UFC in an attempt to secure a new deal so he can finally make his return to the Octagon in 2018.
