Heavyweight Champ Stipe Miocic Leads Salaries for UFC 220 in Boston
With two title fights at the top of the card, it’s understandable why the two champions and challengers earned the lion’s share of the salaries at UFC 220 in Boston.
On Tuesday, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission released the salaries for the card that took place in Boston on Jan. 20 featuring heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic breaking the all time record for title defenses in his division as he defeated hulking challenger Francis Ngannou in the main event.
Miocic took home $600,000 for his part in the headline fight while Ngannou earned $500,000 as the challenger.
Miocic had been at odds with the UFC in the past over his salary after discovering that former opponent Alistair Overeem earned $800,000 for their fight at UFC 203 in 2016 while he took home $200,000 less in victory.
As for the co-main event, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier earned $500,000 for his second round finish against Volkan Oezdemir, who took home $350,000 in his fourth fight in the UFC and first competing for a championship.
Cormier also left Boston with an additional $50,000 for ‘Performance of the Night’ for his win over Oezdemir.
