Aaron Chalmers ‘Improving All The Time’ According To Coach Leon Edwards

Aaron Chalmers' coach Leon Edwards talks about his progression since his debut.

Aaron Chalmers had a good start to his MMA career in 2017 and picked up three wins inside the distance competing in BAMMA.

The ex-Geordie Shore reality TV star recently announced he would be leaving the show to focus on other interests, with MMA at the forefront of his mind. Training at UTC in Birmingham amongst some of the finest fighters in the country, Chalmers has a solid team behind to maximise his potential and his coach Leon Edwards believes he’s improved a lot already.

“Aaron has improved a s*** load since he started here and I’ve been really impressed with him,” Edwards said. “He was a bit slow picking up some of the technique to begin, but now he’s doing really well and improving all the time.

“His last fight camp was easily his best and I’ve been really, really impressed from what I’ve seen from him. I’m looking forward to his next one.”

With two wins via TKO/KO and one via submission, Chalmers’ critics have been quick to point out that he’s not faced the toughest competition. Edwards, however, thinks Chalmers is currently competing at the right level and that the public should cut him slack and not throw him into the shark tank.

“Yeah I think he’s fighting people at the right level right now,” Edwards said. “People give him a lot of flak, but they forget he’s not been doing this long and that he doesn’t have to do this.

“I don’t think he’s ready to be fighting top-10 fighters in the UK or anything, but at the moment he’s progressing well. People just have to be patient with him.”

Earlier today, Chalmers mooted the possibility of a fight with ex-WWE star CM Punk who is currently being linked with a fight at UFC 225 in his hometown of Chicago.

The reality of the situation is, this fight is incredibly unlikely to happen, but hey, we live in 2018 and this is MMA…. Dana White’s probably putting the contracts together as we speak.
