Ronda Rousey Denies Signing Deal to Join WWE
Ronda Rousey isn’t a WWE superstar just yet.
On Thursday, Rousey denied that she has inked a deal with the professional wrestling organization despite long rumored meetings held with the company to make her transition from the UFC Octagon to the squared circle.
Rousey has been engaged in ongoing talks with WWE about joining the promotion and making several appearances at the company’s biggest events in 2018 but as of right now she says no contracts have been signed.
“I haven’t signed anything,” Rousey told TMZ. “Regardless to what anyone said, no pen to paper for me.”
Of course, WWE will rarely confirm a signing to the organization unless they’re making the announcement or waiting for the performer to make a first appearance.
There had been rumors swirling for weeks that Rousey might make show up in WWE for the first time this weekend at their annual “Royal Rumble” show taking place in Philadelphia.
Well Rousey quickly shot that idea down as she was headed for Colombia to finish filming her upcoming role in the film “Mile 22” from director Peter Berg.
“I appreciate everyone’s confidence but I’m actually leaving to Colombia right now to finish shooting “Mile 22″ and I won’t be back until mid-February,” Rousey said.
“Mile 22” is shooting in Colombia currently and Rousey confirmed her arrival with a post on Instagram.
All that being said, sources have said that Rousey and WWE have been near a deal for several weeks already and it was just a matter of time until a contract was signed.
Despite previous reports, Rousey isn’t expected to become a full time performer with WWE but instead work a limited schedule similar to former UFC champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar is one of the highest paid athletes on the WWE roster but only makes sporadic appearances on television and then performing at the pay-per-view events several times throughout the year.
If Rousey reaches an agreement with WWE, it’s likely she would keep a similar schedule, which would then allow her to continue acting and pursuing other interests outside of professional wresting.
As of now, Rousey is mostly focused on her acting career with the role in “Mile 22” but there’s still a better than average chance that she will pop up in WWE programming at some point during 2018.
