Dana White Shoots Down Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor 2 Rumors

Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather may be angling towards a rematch but UFC president Dana White says it isn’t going to happen.

In recent weeks, McGregor and Mayweather have been exchanging messages back and forth over social media, leading many to believe that the two fighters were beginning the early stages of building towards a rematch of their August 2016 boxing match.

Considering Mayweather vs. McGregor sold 4.3 million pay-per-views in North America resulting in nine figure paydays for both fighters, it’s understandable why they’d be interested in doing it all over again.

Unfortunately, White says that’s not going to happen and considering McGregor is under exclusive contract to the UFC, he definitely has a word in whether or not the rematch will ever take place.

“There won’t be a rematch,” White told the “Toucher and Rich” show in Boston. “I’m not interested in the rematch.”

There is one scenario where White would welcome a second fight between Mayweather and McGregor but that’s only if it took place inside the UFC Octagon under mixed martial arts rules.

White says he would sign off on that matchup immediately but he knows there is no chance whatsoever that Mayweather puts his legacy on the line against McGregor in MMA where the odds against him would be astronomical.

“I’ll definitely do that,” White said with a laugh when asked about Mayweather vs. McGregor in the UFC. “He’ll never do that. He absolutely doesn’t win but he absolutely, positively gets hurt badly. He gets hurt bad. Taking a shin to the face. Yeah Floyd Mayweather, shin to the face, leg kicks, all that stuff. That guy has $300 million in the bank. The last thing that guy wants is a shin to the face or an elbow to the head.

“After making that first fight, nothing is impossible but the money would have to be like nothing you’ve ever seen in sports for Floyd to come out and take a shin the face.”

Of course White knows considering Mayweather’s love-hate relationship with the majority of sports fans across the world, people would pay a lot of money to see him get demolished by McGregor inside the Octagon.

“100-percent of people in this country and other parts of the world want to see him take a shin to the face,” White said. “And they will pay whatever they have to pay to see it. That I know.”
