Darren Elkins Earns Another Comeback Win with Submission Against Michael Johnson

Darren Elkins gets a rear naked choke submission to put away Michael Johnson

Darren Elkins might be called “The Damage” but he may want to consider a nickname change to “The Comeback Kid”.

On Sunday night in St. Louis, Elkins endured a bloody first round to battle back and earn a submission victory over Michael Johnson to get his sixth win in a row in a very tough featherweight division.

It’s becoming a trend with Elkins after he earned one of the most incredible comebacks in history last year with his victory over Mirsak Bektic.

This one wasn’t quite as dramatic but Elkins definitely had to survive a tough opening round as Johnson looked better than ever in his first fight at 145 pounds.

Johnson was quick with his hands, constantly popping Elkins with stiff combinations and busting up the Team Alpha Male fighter’s nose in the opening round. Johnson also showed off great takedown defense any time Elkins attempted to get the fight to the mat.

But this fight was a tale of two rounds as Elkins was able to get the fight down in the second round and he had no plans to let Johnson up again.

Elkins advanced his position before taking the back and locking up the rear naked choke. Johnson tried his best to survive the submission but the wince on his face told the whole story and he was forced to tap out.

Following his sixth straight win, Elkins quickly called for a fight that would get him a title shot as he continues to climb the ranks at featherweight with another impressive victory.

“I want the No. 1 contender,” Elkins said. “I think that’s realistic. I want the one that’s going to get me a title shot.”
