UFC Champ Demetrious Johnson Undergoes Shoulder Surgery
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is on the road to recovery after undergoing shoulder surgery on Wednesday.
Johnson detailed his upcoming surgery via Instagram while explaining that he has been suffering from shoulder pain since December, which eventually led to him going under the knife.
“I’m about to go in and get my left shoulder worked on, clean up,” Johnson explained. “I’ve been having pain since December, I grappled nine rounds straight, the next day both shoulders blew up, inflammation and I’m trying to get this thing taken care of
“But other than that, we will keep you posted via Instagram stories. After I’m done I’ll do a live stream back in the hotel room doing all the rehab. Wish me luck.”
There’s no word on the severity of the shoulder injury or how long it will keep Johnson sidelined after having the procedure on Wednesday. Johnson briefly explained in a stream on Twitch that he was going through the grappling rounds to test himself out before inking a contract for his next fight and that was when the injury occurred.
For now, Johnson will recover and begin rehabilitation on his shoulder while awaiting word on his next fight for the UFC later this year.
It’s expected that Johnson will face bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw in his next fight, although no deal has been signed as of yet for that matchup. Dillashaw had previously suggested a summer date for the fight in either June or July and given Johnson’s surgery on Wednesday, it seems that timeline might work out perfectly for the showdown pitting champion against champion.
