Dana White Confirms Cris Cyborg Will Face Amanda Nunes Next in Champion vs. Champion Fight

Dana White is moving forward with a fight between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has her next opponent.

Just a day after Cyborg hinted that she was offered a fight against former Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson, UFC president Dana White has revealed that he’s moving quickly on booking a completely different fight that would pit champion against champion.

Cyborg is expected to face UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in her next fight with the promotion already working on putting the matchup together at some point in 2018.

“First of all, Amanda Nunes wants to fight her. Amanda Nunes wants to fight Cyborg. That is the fight to make and that is the fight I will make. That’s the fight,” White told Yahoo! Sports.

“Amanda Nunes is a big strong, powerful puncher. I think she matches up very well with Cyborg, too, and I think that’s a fun fight. That’s the fight to make.”

Nunes had previously scoffed at the idea of fighting Cyborg out of respect to not face another Brazilian but it appears she’s changed her mind with the chance to become the first ever two-division champion in women’s history in the UFC.

The timing also works out for Nunes, who currently has no top contender to face in the UFC after Raquel Pennington suffered a broken leg that put her out of action for several months.

White didn’t mention anything regarding Anderson’s future with the UFC but it seems the organization is moving forward with a different fight for Cyborg so that leaves the Australian born featherweight in limbo waiting for a new opponent.

As for Cyborg vs. Nunes, the UFC is already attempting to put the matchup together and White hopes to get the fight officially made sooner rather than later.

“Cyborg wants to fight so we’ll get her a fight as soon as we can get it done, as soon as Amanda can prepare and get ready for this fight,” White said. “We’re ready to roll.”
