Cris Cyborg Says She’s Accepted a Fight Against Megan Anderson at UFC 221
Despite just going five rounds this past weekend at UFC 219 against Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg is ready to book her next fight in early Feb. in Australia.
On Wednesday, Cyborg revealed on her Instagram account that she’s been asked to face former Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia on Feb. 10 and she’s already accepted.
“I got a call asking if I would fight Megan Anderson in her home country and I said yes!” Cyborg wrote on Instagram.
Cyborg had originally asked for the matchup after defeating Holm by unanimous decision but then later said that her hand was definitely sore from the fight and competing again in six weeks would be tough.
“I don’t know. My hand really hearts now because her head is very, very hard. I don’t know about six weeks,” Cyborg said on Saturday night.
Obviously, Cyborg acknowledging that she’s accepted a fight against Anderson still doesn’t make it official until the UFC takes steps to offer bout agreements to both fighters, but it definitely seems like the women’s featherweight champion is on board with a quick turn around to compete again.
Cyborg was previously scheduled to face Anderson in July 2017 to crown a new UFC women’s featherweight champion but the Australian born fighter was forced out of the event due to personal reasons.
Now Anderson is ready to resume her fighting career and has already said she’d like nothing more than to face Cyborg in her first bout inside the Octagon.
Whether or not this fight comes together remains to be seen, but UFC 219 still needs a co-main event under the middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and challenger Luke Rockhold. Putting Cyborg vs. Anderson as the co-headliner would make sense but it’s still far from official at this stage of the game.
