Fabricio Werdum Handed Fine For Colby Covington Boomerang Incident

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum has been fined by Australian court for striking Colby Covington with a boomerang.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum has been fined $600 (AUS) for throwing a boomerang at the neck of Colby Covington outside of a hotel in Sydney, Australia on Nov. 29.

Werdum did not show up to hear his case, but the judge at Downing Centre Local Court handed a fine to the Brazilian for his part in the incident.

The incident took place ahead of UFC Fight Night Sydney where Werdum went on to defeat Marcin Tybura via a unanimous decision in the main event. Covington was in attendance as a guest fighter and was allegedly attacked by Werdum on the street outside of the fighter hotel on the Wednesday.

The Brazilian’s anger is said to have stemmed from Covington’s comments about his country and it’s people just two weeks before when he took aim at Brazil following his win at UFC Sao Paulo. The American described Brazil as a “dump” and labelled Brazilians “filthy animals”.

Neither Covington or Werdum are scheduled for fights at this point in time, but Covington is currently being linked to a coaching role on the upcoming series of The Ultimate Fighter ‘Undefeated’ series. The current UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, revealed earlier this week that he’s about to go under the knife to repair his injured shoulder so the timing of the series would make sense for him as he recovers from his injury.

The rivalry between Woodley and Covington has been heating up over the last few weeks, but nothing has yet been decided in regards to the TUF coaching roles according to sources close to MMANytt.com. Watch this space.
