Valentina Shevchenko Faces Undefeated Newcomer in UFC Flyweight Debut
Valentina Shevchenko is officially a flyweight.
The former UFC women’s bantamweight title contender will make the move down to 125 pounds for her next fight as she faces undefeated newcomer Priscial Cachoeira at UFC Fight Night in Belem, Brazil on Feb. 3.
UFC officials announced the pairing on Tuesday.
On her first day in the division, Shevchenko is expected to be a highly ranked competitor at 125 pounds after being the No. contender at bantamweight where she lost in her most recent fight to champion Amanda Nunes.
A Muay Thai fighter with a wealth of experience under her belt, Shevchenko has picked up a slew of impressive wins in the UFC including victories over Holly Holm and Julianna Pena.
For her first fight in the women’s flyweight division, Shevchenko will face off with Catchoeira, who is making her UFC debut with a perfect 8-0 record.
The undefeated Brazilian is best known for her knockout power where she’s put away four of her last five opponents inside the first two rounds.
Shevchenko vs. Cachoeira is the latest addition to a growing UFC Fight Night card in Brazil with a main event still to be determined for the show.
