Christian Lee Hits Unique Trip Slam KO To Defeat Kotetsu Boku

ONE Championship's Christian Lee won with a unique trip slam knockout against Kotetsu Boku today.

ONE Championship featherweight Christian Lee defeated Kotetsu Boku earlier today at ONE: Warriors of the World with a unique slam knockout following a cleverly timed trip.

Lee, just 19-years-old, was facing a man over twice his age and Boku walked into the cage for the 40th professional bout of his career. Speed is usually something Boku relies upon himself to overcome his opposition, but last night it was Lee’s lightening movement and use of footwork that proved to be decisive.

Boku approached the contest cautiously from the outset and Lee used his quick movement to quickly get in and out of range to land single shots and short combinations. Midway through the first round, Lee faked an overhand and shot in for a takedown which he completed. Boku did his best to stand up using the cage, but before he did he ate several knees to the head and had to expend a lot of escaping a sneak D’arce choke that Lee looked to slip in.

When the Japanese fighter eventually made it back to his feet, Lee immediately put the pressure on him and quickly closed the distance. After a short exchange of strikes, Lee found himself behind Boku and it was the beginning of the end. Lee placed one of his own legs behind Boku and in one fluent movement, he tripped the Japanese fighter and threw him through the air and onto his neck.

Boku was unconscious as soon as he body thudded against the mat, but Lee followed him down with hammer fists before the referee pulled him off. It was a mature showing from the Evolve MMA man who now moves to 8-1 with all of his wins inside the distance.

With three wins in a row now, a title fight and rematch with the current ONE featherweight champion Martin Nguyen can’t be too far away. One more win against one of the big names at featherweight could well put him right in the mix.

Elsewhere on the card, a new ONE Championship strawweight champion was crowned when Alex Silva defeated Yoshitaka Naito via a unanimous decision. In the co-main event, Rasul Yakhyaev defeated hometown man Shannon Wiratchai to end the Thai fighter’s six fight win streak.
