Mark Hunt Officially Cleared to Compete Again By the UFC

Mark Hunt can officially resume his fighting career.

The UFC has cleared Hunt to get back in action after he underwent medical testing in Las Vegas recently following concerns from the promotion about his health.

The controversy stemmed from an article that Hunt penned several months ago where he claimed he was experiencing memory loss and slurred speech as a result of his fighting career. The UFC ultimately pulled Hunt from his next fight and requested that he undergo additional testing to verify he was healthy enough to compete again.

Those results have now been returned as UFC officials confirmed on Thursday.

“After a full medical analysis at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas, UFC confirms that heavyweight athlete Mark Hunt has been cleared to compete,” UFC officials wrote in a statement on Thursday.

Hunt’s manager had previously confirmed that the fighter had been cleared and they were just awaiting final word from the UFC. Now with that confirmation in hand, Hunt is ready to get back in action and he hopes to fight as early as February when the UFC returns to Australia.

UFC 221 takes place on Feb. 10 in Perth, Australia and Hunt hopes to face former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum on the card, although at this time no decision has been made regarding his return to action or his opponent.

The good news is Hunt can look forward to fighting again after getting his medical clearance on Thursday.
