UFC Liverpool Not Off The Table For 2018 As The UFC Look At Two Further UK Events
The UFC Liverpool fight card rumoured to be taking place in Feb. 2018 turned out to be a false alarm, but there could still be hope that the promotion visit there later in the year.
Speaking exclusively to MMANytt.com this past week, UFC welterweight Darren Till explained exactly what went down a few weeks ago when it was widely reported that he would be facing Stephen Thompson on a UFC fight card that was being moved from Orlando, Florida to his hometown on Liverpool on Feb. 24. The rumour was quickly shutdown by Thompson’s team, but it appears that for a short period of time Till himself didn’t really know what was going on.
“I knew the UFC wanted to make the Liverpool card happen in February, but I woke up that morning with the same news as everybody else,” Till said. “I wasn’t in the know anymore than the next person. Dana just said that because I think he just got excited about the matchup and about me being, what, the hottest welterweight around at the moment.
“He blurted it out and Wonderboy’s Dad came back and said it ain’t happening and this that and the other. I wish it could’ve happened and I know Dana is really pushing for a Liverpool card. I know they’ve got big things in store for me so it will be a big year.”
While Liverpool is off the cards for February, Till went on to reveal that the UFC have two further dates pencilled in for the UK in 2018 in addition to UFC London on March 17. With UFC President Dana White supportive of taking the promotion to his hometown, Liverpool has a great chance of hosting one of them.
“I sent Dana a message thanking him for the opportunities and for being a part of the organization which I am really proud about and representing myself, my team and the UFC,” Till said. “I know that he wants to push for it.
“Next year there are going to be two other dates In England that the UFC have booked, so lets just hope and pray there’s going to be a Liverpool card on one of those two dates. If it means I have to wait, I’ll wait. My fate and my destiny is sealed. I already know what I’m going to be. There’s no rush. I’m only 24, 25 in three weeks. There’s no rush.”
