Sijara Eubanks Breaks Her Silence After Dropping Out of Flyweight Title Fight
Sijara Eubanks has broken her silence after falling out of “The Ultimate Fighter” 26 Finale main event where she was supposed to compete to become the first ever UFC women’s flyweight champion.
With Eubanks out, fellow cast mate Roxanne Modafferi stepped in to face Nicco Montano in the title fight on Friday’s card from Las Vegas.
As for Eubanks, she suffered through three very tough weight cuts to get down to the flyweight limit during her time on the reality show and it appears things didn’t get any easier after the series was finished filming.
“First of all, I’m a champion. Point blank. I will be UFC champion, but it’s God’s will that it won’t be Friday night,” Eubanks wrote on Instagram. “I’m a gangster and I’ve cut more weight than most male fighters, and unfortunately there were some miscalculations this cut, no excuses, I worked my ass off and went out on my shield. I was hospitalized early this morning for kidney failure but best believe I’m a be right back training and right back after that belt.
“This game is full of ups and downs, true champs know that and bounce back. Nicco and Roxanne I’m sure will have a great fight, and best wishes to both those ladies. True class, those two. Nothing changes, I’m still the queen and I will claim my throne.”
Eubanks had previously worked with the UFC Performance Institute for her final weight cut on the reality show but there’s no word who she worked with in preparation for the title fight on Friday night.
It’s the second time in history that an “Ultimate Fighter” competitor has been granted a title shot after going through the reality show and then failed to make weight ahead of the championship bout.
Travis Lutter suffered the same fate all the way back during “The Ultimate Fighter” season 4 when he failed to make weight and later lost by second round submission to middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
